Section 144 has been imposed after the attack on them after the rally of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) in Gopalganj. The attack on them took place at the municipal park of the city around 2:45 pm today, Wednesday.
Some eyewitnesses said that as soon as the NCP rally ended, a group of people armed with sticks surrounded and attacked the leaders and activists. They blocked the NCP leaders and activists and the police vehicles from all sides. At that time, police and army members tried to control the situation by firing sound grenades and blank bullets. The NCP leaders and activists turned their vehicles in the other direction and left the scene.
Meanwhile, Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamruzzaman has imposed Section 144 in the district, an executive magistrate of the district administration told reporters.
After the attack, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari complained to reporters that Awami League leaders and activists carried out the attack. At that time, the police and army played a passive role. They (NCP) were told that everything was fine. But when they arrived at the rally venue, they found that the situation was not good.
Earlier, around 1:45 pm, 200 to 300 people carrying sticks went to the NCP rally venue. At that time, the police members around the stage quickly entered the court premises from there. At the same time, NCP leaders and activists who were on the stage and in front of the stage also ran away. NCP leaders and activists complained that all those who carried out the attack were Awami League supporters.

At that time, the attackers vandalized the stage chairs and tore the banners. At one stage, District Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman went to the spot. The attackers fled after the NCP leaders and workers and the police gave chase together. At 2:05 pm, NCP convener Nahid Islam, member secretary Akhtar Hossain, chief organizer (southern region) Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer (northern region) Sarjis Alam and other central leaders reached the rally site. The NCP held a rally there. After the rally, the attack took place around the NCP leaders and workers.

On his way back from there, the UNO's vehicle was attacked in Kangshur in Sadar Upazila around 11:30 am. His driver was injured in the incident.
UNO M Rakibul Hasan said, 'After learning about the unpleasant incident of the attack on the police vehicle surrounding the NCP march, I went to inspect the area. When we reached Kangshur on the way back from there, a group of people attacked our vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Mohammad Hamim, was injured.'
